Singapore has expanded its list of approved import sources for meat and egg products by adding three new European Union countries—Greece, Lithuania, and Latvia. The move reflects the country’s continued efforts to diversify its food supply and strengthen international trade partnerships.
The announcement was made through a joint statement involving the EU delegation, the Singapore Food Agency, and the National Parks Board. With this development, the total number of EU countries authorized to export meat and egg products to Singapore has increased to 18.
Singapore has already been importing such products from several EU nations, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands. The addition of new countries is expected to enhance supply chain resilience and ensure a stable flow of food products into the country.
In a significant policy shift, Singapore and the European Union have also agreed to relax sourcing requirements for raw materials used in meat and egg product manufacturing. Previously, animals and related products had to originate from a single EU country. Under the new arrangement, approved raw materials can now be sourced from multiple EU member states.
This change is expected to streamline trade processes and support more flexible supply chains within the EU. It will allow exporters to optimize production and sourcing while maintaining compliance with Singapore’s food safety standards.
Officials emphasized that the new approvals and trade measures will take effect once all administrative and regulatory requirements are completed by both EU authorities and Singaporean agencies. The move is part of ongoing cooperation between Singapore and the EU to facilitate smoother trade in agricultural and food products.
The development highlights Singapore’s proactive approach to food security, ensuring diverse and reliable import channels while maintaining strict quality and safety controls. It also strengthens economic ties between Singapore and the European Union.
