Singapore Recalls Formula Milk Over Toxin

Singapore Recalls Formula Milk Over Toxin

Post by : Shakul

Singapore authorities have recalled additional formula milk products after detecting cereulide toxin, a harmful substance linked to food poisoning. The move was announced by the Singapore Food Agency in coordination with health officials.

The affected products include infant and toddler formula imported from Switzerland and Australia. Officials clarified that the contaminated batches represent only a small fraction of the country’s overall milk supply, with safe alternatives widely available.

Health Monitoring And Safety Measures

The toxin, cereulide, is produced by certain bacteria and can cause symptoms such as vomiting and stomach discomfort. While earlier reported cases were mild and have fully recovered, authorities continue to monitor the situation closely.

The Communicable Diseases Agency is working with healthcare providers to track any new cases and ensure early detection of potential health issues linked to the contaminated products.

No New Cases Reported

Officials confirmed that no new cases have been reported since the last update, providing reassurance to the public. However, they emphasised that there are currently no definitive lab tests to confirm cereulide poisoning, making precautionary recalls necessary.

Consumers who have purchased the affected products are advised not to consume them and to follow official guidance for returns or disposal.

Limited Market Impact

Authorities noted that the recalled products account for a very small share of Singapore’s formula milk market. The supply of alternative products remains stable, ensuring minimal disruption for parents and caregivers.

The recall highlights Singapore’s strict food safety standards and proactive approach in protecting public health, especially for infants and young children.
