Residents of Punggol in Singapore can now experience free rides in fully autonomous vehicles as ComfortDelGro launches its public driverless shuttle service on June 22. The initiative is part of Singapore’s broader effort to integrate self-driving technology into its public transport network.
Service Open to Public
The autonomous shuttle service will operate daily. Mondays and Fridays have been designated primarily for group bookings, families, seniors and passengers who may require additional assistance during their journeys.
Connecting Key Destinations
The current route takes approximately 25 minutes and connects several important locations, including Block 420A Northshore Drive, Punggol Coast Mall and One Punggol near Sam Kee LRT Station. A longer route covering additional areas is expected to be introduced in July.
Vehicles Powered by Advanced Technology
The five-seater autonomous vehicles are supplied by Chinese technology company Pony.ai. Although the cars operate without a driver, a trained safety officer remains onboard and can take control whenever necessary to ensure passenger safety.
Successful Trial Phase
Before opening to the public, the service underwent an invite-only trial that began in April. More than 1,500 passengers participated in the testing phase, including local residents and community representatives who provided valuable feedback.

Enhanced Safety Measures Introduced
Operations were temporarily suspended earlier this year following a minor incident involving a road divider. After a detailed review, transport authorities and ComfortDelGro updated operational procedures and introduced additional safety requirements before restarting the program.
Singapore Pushes Driverless Transport Future
The autonomous shuttle service is part of Singapore’s long-term strategy to develop smart mobility solutions. Another operator, Grab, is also conducting driverless vehicle trials in Punggol and plans to introduce paid services later in 2026 as autonomous transport adoption continues to grow.
