The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore has announced new safety rules limiting air passengers departing Singapore to carrying a maximum of two power banks per person starting April 15, 2026. The move comes as part of updated global aviation safety measures aimed at reducing fire hazards linked to lithium battery devices onboard aircraft.
Under the new regulation, passengers will not be allowed to charge power banks during flights, and they are also advised against using them to charge personal devices while onboard. Travelers carrying more than two power banks will be required to dispose of the excess devices before boarding their flights, ensuring strict compliance with the updated guidelines.
The changes follow new safety recommendations issued by the International Civil Aviation Organization, which highlighted the risks posed by lithium batteries, including overheating and short-circuiting. Authorities emphasized that these measures are necessary to enhance passenger safety while maintaining practical travel convenience.
Singapore’s airlines, including Singapore Airlines and Scoot, had already implemented restrictions on the use and charging of power banks onboard flights since 2025. Officials have advised passengers to check airline-specific policies before traveling, as additional restrictions may apply beyond the new baseline rules.
