Singapore is becoming a popular study destination for Indian students. While countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada have traditionally been the top choices, Singapore is gaining attention because of its globally ranked universities, high-quality education system, and strong career opportunities. According to data presented by India’s Ministry of External Affairs in the Rajya Sabha, more than 33,000 Indian students are currently studying in Singapore.
The country is home to several well-known universities recognised around the world. Some of the top institutions include the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore Management University (SMU), Duke-NUS Medical School, and Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS). These universities offer a wide range of programmes in fields such as engineering, business, technology, medicine, and social sciences.
The cost of studying in Singapore varies depending on the university and programme. Undergraduate courses in public universities generally cost between SGD 10,000 and SGD 20,000 per year, while postgraduate programmes may range from SGD 18,000 to SGD 30,000 annually. Students also need to consider living expenses, which can range from SGD 1,200 to SGD 2,600 per month, covering accommodation, food, and transportation.
International students must apply for a Student Pass to study in Singapore. After securing admission, students complete the application through the SOLAR system and the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority website. Approved students receive an In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter before entering the country. While studying, students at approved institutions can work up to 16 hours per week, and after graduation they may apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass to stay in Singapore for up to one year while searching for a job.
