Taiwan Says It Is Not Provoking China Amid Rising Tensions

Taiwan Says It Is Not Provoking China Amid Rising Tensions

Post by : Shakul

Taiwan President Lai Ching-te said that Taiwan's efforts to safeguard its national security and democratic way of life should not be viewed as a provocation against China. Speaking in Taipei, Lai stressed that the people of Taiwan have the right to determine their own future and protect their interests.

President Calls For Dialogue

Lai reiterated his willingness to hold talks with China based on equality and mutual respect. He said Taiwan remains open to communication but will not accept unification under the rule of China's Communist Party. According to Lai, maintaining freedom and democracy is a fundamental right of the Taiwanese people.

China Rejects Taiwan's Position

China quickly dismissed Lai's remarks and repeated its claim that Taiwan is an inseparable part of Chinese territory. Beijing stated that the Taiwan issue remains an internal matter and insisted that reunification is inevitable despite opposition from Taipei.

Concerns Over Military Pressure

The Taiwanese president warned that China's military activities and political pressure have continued to intensify across the region. He said Beijing's actions are changing the status quo in the Taiwan Strait and creating challenges for regional peace and stability.

Taiwan Awaits US Arms Package

Lai expressed hope that a new United States arms sale package for Taiwan would receive approval soon. He emphasized that Taiwan must continue strengthening its defence capabilities and maintain close communication with Washington regarding security cooperation.

New Defence Investment Plan Announced

Taiwan's Defence Ministry has proposed a new defence package worth approximately $6.7 billion. The plan includes surveillance systems, coastal defence weapons and advanced unmanned drone technology aimed at improving national security and deterrence capabilities.

Taiwan Seeks Stability Through Strength

Lai said Taiwan's defence investments send a message that the island is willing to protect itself and contribute to regional security. He added that Taiwan hopes stronger deterrence measures will help maintain peace and stability across the Indo-Pacific region.
