Two Pilots Killed in Taiwan Training Crash

Two Pilots Killed in Taiwan Training Crash

Post by : Shakul

Two pilots of the Taiwan Air Force were killed on Tuesday in a tragic military training aircraft crash during a routine exercise that involved simulating an engine malfunction, according to Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense.

The incident took place at Gangshan Air Base, located in the southern coastal city of Kaohsiung, where a T-34 training aircraft crashed on the runway during landing operations. The crash resulted in the immediate death of both pilots on board.

The Ministry of Defense confirmed the accident in an official statement and said that the training exercise was part of a standard operational readiness drill designed to simulate emergency flight conditions, including engine failure scenarios.

Following the crash, the Taiwanese Air Force has established a special investigative task force to determine the exact cause of the accident. Officials stated that the investigation will examine technical conditions, pilot response, and operational procedures during the training exercise.

The identities of the deceased pilots have not yet been publicly disclosed, pending notification of their families. Military authorities have expressed condolences and stated that full support will be provided to the families of the victims.

According to official defense records, Taiwan’s Air Force uses training aircraft such as single-engine Beechcraft models for pilot instruction. These aircraft have been part of Taiwan’s training fleet since they were first delivered in 1984 and remain an important part of early-stage pilot training programs.

Military aviation experts note that training exercises involving simulated engine failures are considered highly sensitive and require precise handling by both instructors and pilots, as they replicate real emergency conditions in controlled environments.

The crash has raised concerns about training safety protocols and aircraft maintenance procedures, although officials have not yet indicated whether mechanical failure or human error contributed to the incident.

Authorities have temporarily suspended similar training operations at the base until preliminary findings are reviewed, while a detailed investigation continues.

The Taiwanese Ministry of Defense reaffirmed its commitment to aviation safety and stated that all necessary steps will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
