The Royal Thai Army is accelerating efforts to strengthen security along the Thai-Cambodian border by constructing bomb shelters aimed at protecting civilians and personnel in the region. The initiative reflects ongoing measures to enhance safety following recent tensions along the border.
Under the direction of General Phana Klaewplodthuk, the army has prioritized both national defense and civilian protection. The Army Civil Affairs Department, in collaboration with engineering units and border defense forces, has been tasked with building a total of 182 bomb shelters across key areas.
According to officials, 108 shelters fall under the responsibility of the Burapha Task Force, while 74 are managed by the Suranaree Task Force. Since December 2025, construction has progressed significantly, with 117 shelters already completed and 65 currently under construction, reaching over 80% overall progress.
The Royal Thai Army reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of residents living near the border. Authorities are also working on restoring affected areas and strengthening preventive measures to allow communities to return to normal life with greater peace and security.
