Three former crew members of the Thai cargo ship Mayuree Naree have filed a lawsuit against the vessel's operator and captain, claiming negligence after the ship was struck during the conflict in the Strait of Hormuz. The case was filed before the Central Labour Court in Bangkok.
The Mayuree Naree was hit on March 11 while sailing through the Strait of Hormuz during regional military tensions. The attack killed three Thai crew members, while another 20 sailors were rescued from the damaged vessel.

The former crew members claim the shipping company made an unsafe decision by allowing the vessel to sail through a high-risk conflict zone. The lawsuit argues that the operators failed to protect the safety and welfare of employees during the voyage.
According to their lawyer, all three former sailors have been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Doctors reportedly believe treatment could take more than a year, preventing them from returning to work in the maritime industry.
The workers said they received compensation equal to only two months' salary before their employment was terminated in April, despite holding nine-month employment contracts. They are seeking further legal relief through the court.
The lawsuit names Precious Shipping, two affiliated companies, and the ship's captain as defendants. As of now, the companies have not publicly responded to the allegations or commented on the legal proceedings.
The lawsuit has renewed attention on crew safety during armed conflicts and shipping operations in high-risk international waterways. The Labour Court is expected to hear the case in the coming months.
