Thailand Rewards Asian Beach Games Heroes

Post by : Shakul

The Thai government has officially awarded more than 33 million baht to athletes, coaches, and sports associations following Thailand’s impressive performance at the 6th Asian Beach Games held in Sanya, China. The award ceremony took place on May 6, 2026, at The Grand Fourwings Convention Hotel in Bangkok and was led by Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mr. Surasak Panjaroenvorakul. The event was organized to recognize the achievements of Thai athletes and encourage further development of the country’s sports sector at the international level.

The 6th Asian Beach Games were held from April 22 to April 30, 2026, in Sanya, People’s Republic of China. Thailand delivered an outstanding performance during the competition and secured second place overall in Asia. Thai athletes won a total of 28 medals, including 10 gold medals, 9 silver medals, and 9 bronze medals. The strong results were celebrated as a major success for Thailand’s national sports program and demonstrated the growing competitiveness of Thai athletes on the international stage.

The Thai government, through the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, the Sports Authority of Thailand, and the National Sports Development Fund, allocated a total prize fund of 33,982,500 baht for the successful athletes and supporting teams. The financial rewards were distributed among athletes, coaches, and sports associations as recognition for their hard work, dedication, and achievements during the competition.

Out of the total prize money, athletes received 23.7 million baht as direct rewards for their medal-winning performances. Coaches were awarded more than 3.17 million baht for their role in preparing and guiding the athletes, while sports associations received over 7.11 million baht to support future training programs and sports development activities. Officials stated that the funding is intended not only as a reward but also as an investment in the long-term growth of Thai sports.

During the ceremony, Minister Surasak Panjaroenvorakul thanked all sectors involved in supporting Thai athletes, including government agencies, private organizations, coaches, trainers, and sports associations. He emphasized that Thailand’s sports success is the result of strong cooperation and continuous development across multiple sectors. According to the Minister, the government remains fully committed to building a modern and sustainable sports system for the country.

The Minister also highlighted the government’s “Thailand Sport Plus” policy, which focuses on four major areas of sports development. The first area, Sport Health, aims to encourage people across the country to participate in sports and maintain healthy lifestyles. The second, Sport Wealth, focuses on using sports to stimulate economic growth, tourism, and sports-related industries. The third pillar, Sport Pride, aims to elevate Thai sporting events and athletes to international standards, while Sport Future emphasizes the use of technology and digital systems to improve sports management and athlete development.

In addition to athlete support, the government also stressed the importance of transparent and accountable budget management in the sports sector. Minister Surasak explained that the National Sports Development Fund follows a zero-based budgeting approach to ensure that all spending is effective, measurable, and beneficial for athletes and sports organizations. Clear performance indicators are also being introduced to improve long-term planning and efficiency in sports administration.

Officials believe that Thailand’s success at the Asian Beach Games reflects the country’s growing potential to compete with leading sports nations in Asia. The strong medal performance has increased national pride and inspired young athletes across the country. Sports authorities are now expected to continue investing in athlete development programs, training facilities, and international competition opportunities to maintain Thailand’s strong performance in future events.

Minister Surasak concluded by stating that the achievements of Thai athletes have brought great pride and happiness to the nation. He said the government’s financial support of over 33 million baht is not simply a reward for winning medals, but an important step toward creating a sustainable future for Thai sports. According to the Minister, continued investment in athletes, technology, and sports infrastructure will help Thailand achieve even greater success at international competitions in the coming years.
