Thailand's Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE) has issued a clarification regarding reports circulating on social media that claimed there were gaps in the Thai-Cambodian border fence in Chanthaburi Province. Authorities stated that the information is misleading and does not accurately reflect the situation on the ground.
According to the Thailand Anti-Fake News Center (AFNC), the sections identified as gaps are part of an ongoing border fence construction project. Officials explained that these areas are intentionally designed to remain open during certain stages of development and are not the result of structural failures or security weaknesses.
The ministry said that some images shared online showed incomplete sections of the project without providing the full context of the construction process. As a result, the posts created confusion among the public and raised unnecessary concerns regarding border security.
Authorities further clarified that removable steel mesh panels are being installed in specific locations to facilitate access for inspections, maintenance work, and border marker verification in accordance with established regulations. These temporary openings are considered a normal part of the project's design and implementation.
The clarification came as the Anti-Fake News Center continued its monitoring of online misinformation. As of June 4, 2026, the center had detected more than 160,000 online messages, with thousands requiring verification. Several stories circulating on social media were identified as either false, misleading, or lacking proper context.
Government officials urged citizens to rely on information released by responsible agencies and avoid drawing conclusions based on isolated photographs or incomplete reports. They emphasized that misinformation related to national security issues can create unnecessary public concern and undermine trust in official information.
The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society reiterated its commitment to combating fake news and promoting accurate information. Citizens are encouraged to verify facts before sharing content online and to consult official government sources whenever questions arise regarding public policy, security matters, or infrastructure projects.
