Crane Collapse in Thailand Kills 2, Injures 5 Amid Rail Tragedy

Crane Collapse in Thailand Kills 2, Injures 5 Amid Rail Tragedy

Post by : Meena Ariff

A crane collapsed on a busy road in Samut Sakhon province, near Bangkok, on Thursday, crushing two vehicles and killing two people, police said. Five others were injured in the accident, authorities added.

The crane was part of an elevated highway construction project when it toppled onto the road beneath, trapping motorists and causing serious damage. Local police quickly arrived at the scene to assist the injured and secure the area.

This tragic incident comes just a day after a crane accident in northeastern Thailand caused the deaths of 32 train passengers. On Wednesday, in Nakhon Ratchasima province, a crane involved in the construction of a high-speed rail line collapsed, derailing a train. That accident left 66 of the 195 passengers injured and prompted a full investigation into safety practices on large infrastructure projects.

Police in Samut Sakhon said the recent crane collapse highlights ongoing safety concerns in Thailand’s construction industry, which has seen several deadly accidents in recent years. Authorities have urged construction companies to follow strict safety measures and have vowed a thorough investigation to determine the cause of Thursday’s accident.

Emergency responders worked rapidly to clear debris and provide medical care for the injured. Local officials also warned residents and motorists in the area to avoid the site while rescue and inspection work continues.

The government has faced increasing scrutiny over the safety standards of infrastructure projects, especially following consecutive crane-related incidents that have put both workers and civilians at risk. Investigators are expected to examine equipment, construction practices, and compliance with safety regulations to prevent future tragedies.
