Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health has reassured the public that there is currently no shortage of medicines, medical supplies or vaccines in the country despite the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. Officials stated that Thailand’s pharmaceutical supply remains stable because most finished medicines are imported from China, the United States and Europe rather than the conflict-affected region.
Public Health Minister Pattana Promphat said an initial assessment by the ministry found that the risk of shortages remains low. However, authorities are closely monitoring global logistics as shipping routes have been disrupted due to security concerns in key waterways such as the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea. These disruptions could result in longer delivery times for imported medical products.
According to the ministry, private pharmaceutical distributors and importers normally maintain around two months of medicine stock as a buffer, helping prevent immediate shortages. Hospitals across Thailand have also been instructed to carefully manage their resources, including medicines, medical supplies and energy, in case supply chains become more complicated if the conflict continues.
The Thai Food and Drug Administration is expected to hold discussions with pharmaceutical industry associations to monitor supply conditions and address potential challenges. Officials emphasized that the public should not panic, as medicine and vaccine supplies remain within normal levels at this stage.
In preparation for possible evacuations of Thai nationals from the Middle East, the government has also strengthened health screening systems at six major airports: Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Wing 6 Royal Thai Air Force base, Hat Yai, U-Tapao and Phuket. Authorities said any returning travelers showing signs of illness would receive immediate treatment under established medical protocols.
