Thailand and Japan are strengthening their cooperation in the field of education following a high level meeting held in Bangkok. The discussion was led by Akranan Kankittinant, who met with the Japanese ambassador to explore ways to improve learning opportunities and reduce inequality in education.
The meeting focused on exchanging ideas and best practices between the two countries. Thailand aims to learn from Japan’s advanced education system, especially in areas related to human resource development and preparing students for modern careers.
One of the key topics discussed was how to address the issue of school dropouts. Thailand is currently working to bring young people back into the education system and provide them with opportunities to continue learning. Japan shared its experience in dealing with similar challenges over the past two decades.
Japanese strategies include setting up guidance centers and providing counselors in schools to support students’ mental health. These measures help children adapt to changes brought by technology and modern lifestyles, especially in the era of artificial intelligence and digital learning.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of innovation in education. Japan’s KOSEN system, which focuses on technical and vocational training, was presented as a successful model. This system prepares students with practical skills that match the needs of high technology industries.
Both sides also talked about expanding support for vulnerable groups. Special attention is being given to children who are out of school, including those from disadvantaged backgrounds. Programmes to provide transportation, financial support, and scholarships were discussed as ways to ensure equal access to education.
Another major focus of the meeting was increasing scholarship opportunities. Thailand has requested Japan to expand programmes such as the MEXT scholarship so that more students, especially those outside the formal education system, can benefit from international level education.
The two countries also discussed promoting exchange programmes for teachers and education officials. Thailand is interested in sending personnel to Japan for training and internships, which would allow them to gain new knowledge and bring modern practices back home.
Officials believe that stronger cooperation between Thailand and Japan will help create a more inclusive and modern education system. By combining experience, innovation, and international collaboration, both countries aim to prepare students for future challenges and opportunities.
