Thailand’s Ministry of Education has announced an ambitious initiative to transform Nakhon Ratchasima into a national model for lifelong learning, aiming to make education more accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. The program reflects the government's commitment to creating flexible learning opportunities that extend beyond traditional classrooms and support personal and professional development throughout life.
The announcement was made during a meeting led by Education Minister Prasert Chantharawongthong and Deputy Education Minister Akranan Kankittinant with learning promotion officials from all 32 districts of Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The meeting took place at Suranaree University of Technology and focused on expanding educational opportunities for underserved communities.
Officials emphasized that the Office of Learning Promotion plays a critical role in reaching people who have missed out on formal education, including school dropouts, elderly citizens, workers, people with disabilities, and vulnerable groups. Through community-based learning programs, the ministry aims to ensure that education remains available and relevant to every stage of life.
One of the key priorities is addressing the challenge of students leaving the education system. According to ministry data, more than 16,000 children and young people in Nakhon Ratchasima are currently outside formal education. Authorities plan to work closely with local communities, civil society organizations, and private-sector partners to help these learners return to education while also providing practical vocational and digital skills training.
The initiative also includes upgrading public libraries and science centers into modern community learning hubs. These facilities will serve as accessible spaces where citizens can develop new skills, gain knowledge, and explore opportunities related to technology, entrepreneurship, and career development. Officials believe these centers will become important engines of local educational growth.
Another significant component of the program is the planned launch of the "One Year, One Certificate" project. The initiative will initially target groups such as military conscripts, Buddhist monks, and prison inmates, providing them with opportunities to gain recognized qualifications and improve their employment prospects after completing their programs.
The Ministry of Education also intends to promote the use of artificial intelligence and digital technologies as tools for learning and workforce development. By integrating modern technology into community education systems, authorities hope to create a more inclusive learning environment that equips people with skills needed in a rapidly changing economy. The project is expected to position Nakhon Ratchasima as a leading example of how lifelong education can strengthen communities, improve employment opportunities, and support sustainable social development across Thailand.
