Thailand Gives RM80,000 Aid to Injured Malaysian

Thailand Gives RM80,000 Aid to Injured Malaysian

Post by : Shakul

The Thai government has handed over compensation worth 650,000 baht (approximately RM80,000) to one of the two Malaysians injured in the Tak Bai bomb blast that occurred on June 29 in Narathiwat province. The compensation reflects Thailand's commitment to supporting victims affected by security-related incidents.

Authorities expressed regret over the attack and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining safety in the country's southern border provinces.

Official Compensation Ceremony Held

Narathiwat Governor Boonchuay Homyamyen presented the compensation cheque to Muhammad Yusri Udin during an official ceremony held at the Sungai Golok Customs Office.

The financial assistance was provided through a Thai government relief fund that supports victims of terrorism and security-related incidents, covering injuries, medical treatment, and property losses where applicable.

Bomb Blast Injured Two Malaysians

The incident occurred on June 29 when an improvised explosive device (IED) hidden inside a roadside drain exploded near the Sapom junction in Tak Bai district.

The explosion injured Muhammad Yusri Udin, 38, and Abdullah Syarapi Abd Rahman, 45, while they were travelling in the area. Thai authorities later confirmed that the Malaysians were not the intended targets of the attack.

Investigation and Security Measures Continue

Following the bombing, Thai security agencies arrested a 40-year-old suspect believed to have links with the incident. Investigators also conducted forensic examinations and explosive ordnance disposal operations at the blast site.

Officials said security operations across southern Thailand have been intensified to prevent similar attacks and reassure both residents and foreign visitors.

Why did Thailand provide compensation to the Malaysian victim?

The Thai government provided financial compensation because the Malaysian citizen was injured during a security-related bomb blast in Tak Bai district. The assistance was granted under Thailand's victim compensation programme, which offers financial aid to people affected by terrorist attacks, insurgency-related violence, and other public security incidents.

What happened in the Tak Bai bomb blast?

On June 29, an improvised explosive device concealed in a roadside drain exploded near Sapom junction in Tak Bai district, Narathiwat. The blast injured two Malaysian nationals. Thai investigators believe the explosion was part of an insurgent attack, although officials confirmed the Malaysians were not the intended targets.

What steps are Thai authorities taking after the attack?

Thai security forces have launched a comprehensive investigation, arrested a suspect, conducted forensic and explosive disposal operations, increased security patrols in the affected region, and strengthened border safety measures. Authorities are also working to restore confidence among tourists and local communities.

Government Reassures Tourists and Residents

Thai officials emphasized that public safety remains a top priority and pledged continued efforts to strengthen security across Narathiwat and neighboring provinces. Authorities said they will continue working closely with security agencies to reduce threats and protect both local residents and international visitors.

The government hopes that enhanced security measures will help maintain confidence in cross-border travel and tourism.

The Tak Bai bomb blast highlights the continuing security challenges in Thailand's southern border provinces, where insurgent-related incidents occasionally occur. The Thai government maintains a compensation programme for victims while simultaneously strengthening law enforcement, intelligence gathering, and emergency response operations.

Malaysia and Thailand continue to cooperate closely on border security, cross-border movement, and public safety. Authorities from both countries regularly coordinate efforts to ensure the safety of citizens travelling between the neighboring nations while maintaining regional stability.

Authorities Continue Monitoring Situation

Officials stated that investigations remain ongoing to determine the full circumstances behind the bombing. Security agencies will continue monitoring the region, carrying out preventive operations, and providing assistance to victims as part of Thailand's broader commitment to public safety and regional security.
