Thailand Approves Sports Plan, Boosts Budget Push

Thailand Approves Sports Plan, Boosts Budget Push

Post by : Shakul

A major step toward strengthening Thailand’s sports sector was taken as the National Sports Development Fund Management Committee held an important meeting in Bangkok. The meeting focused on shaping the future of sports development in the country, with key leaders and officials coming together to discuss strategies and financial planning for the coming years.

The meeting was held on April 30, 2026, at the Office of the Permanent Secretary to the Prime Minister. It was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Songsak Thongsri, who led discussions on several important matters related to sports growth and athlete support. The presence of senior officials highlighted the importance of the agenda.

Among those attending the meeting was Surasak Panjaroenvorakul, along with other key figures such as ministry officials and representatives from national sports organizations. Their participation ensured that different aspects of sports development were carefully considered during the discussions.

The main focus of the meeting was the approval of the strategic plan for the National Sports Development Fund for the period 2027 to 2030. This long-term plan aims to provide a clear direction for improving sports performance in Thailand and ensuring that athletes receive the necessary support to compete at international levels.

In addition to the strategic plan, the committee also reviewed and discussed the operational plan and budget allocation for the year 2027. The goal is to ensure that funds are used efficiently and in a way that aligns with national priorities. Authorities stressed that proper financial management is essential for sustainable sports development.

The meeting also addressed the importance of recognizing and rewarding athletes and coaches who have achieved success in international competitions. Special attention was given to those who performed well at the Asian Beach Games held in China. The committee approved prize money and welfare benefits to support these individuals and encourage continued excellence.

Another key topic discussed was the welfare of athletes, including those who participated in the ASEAN Para Games. The committee emphasized the need to improve support systems for athletes, ensuring they receive proper care and opportunities to grow in their respective sports.

To improve fairness in funding, the meeting also considered forming a subcommittee that will review and refine the criteria used to allocate budgets across different sports. This step is expected to make the distribution of funds more balanced and appropriate for various sports disciplines.

The committee also explored ways to increase revenue for the sports fund in the future. One of the ideas discussed was to study the possibility of using certain taxes, such as sugar tax and other related levies, to generate additional funds. These funds could then be reinvested to further develop the potential of Thai athletes and strengthen the country’s presence in global sports.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the chairman emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in all operations. He stated that every decision should prioritize the well-being and success of athletes. This approach is expected to build trust and ensure that Thailand continues to progress in the world of sports.
