Thailand Records 7.5% Decline in Foreign Tourist Arrivals in 2025

Thailand Records 7.5% Decline in Foreign Tourist Arrivals in 2025

Post by : Rameen Ariff

Thailand’s tourism sector experienced a 7.54% decline in foreign visitor arrivals from January 1 to October 12, 2025, compared to the same period last year, the Tourism Ministry reported on Tuesday.

During this period, Thailand welcomed a total of 25.1 million international tourists. Malaysia emerged as the largest source market, sending 3.61 million visitors, while China followed closely with 3.58 million tourists. Other notable markets contributing to Thailand’s tourism included India, South Korea, and Japan, although exact figures were not disclosed.

The Tourism Ministry highlighted that the drop reflects ongoing challenges in the global travel industry, including fluctuating demand, economic uncertainties, and travel restrictions in some regions. Despite the decline, Thailand remains one of the most popular travel destinations in Southeast Asia, renowned for its beaches, cultural attractions, cuisine, and hospitality.

Authorities continue to monitor trends closely and are implementing strategies to boost international arrivals, such as promoting new tourism packages, easing visa procedures, and increasing marketing efforts in key overseas markets. The ministry emphasized that the tourism sector plays a critical role in Thailand’s economy, contributing significantly to employment and national income.

Experts noted that while arrivals from Malaysia and China remain strong, the overall slowdown signals the need for Thailand to diversify its international tourist base and attract more visitors from emerging markets. Seasonal patterns, geopolitical factors, and regional competition also play a role in shaping visitor numbers.

Thailand’s tourism recovery strategy aims to maintain its appeal as a safe and attractive destination for global travelers while ensuring sustainable growth in the coming years.
