Thailand's government has intensified its efforts to protect children after reports suggested that counterfeit squishy toys may contain dangerous chemicals above safe limits. Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, has instructed the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) to closely monitor the sale of these products across the country.
Authorities Strengthen Product Inspections
The Consumer Protection Board has been directed to work together with the Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) to inspect toys sold in markets and online platforms. Officials will focus on identifying products without proper labels, safety certification or verified manufacturers and remove unsafe products from circulation.
Health Risks Raise Serious Concern
Officials warned that low-quality squishy toys may contain harmful chemical residues that could affect children's health after prolonged exposure. Some products also resemble food items such as cakes, donuts and desserts, increasing the risk that young children may accidentally place them in their mouths, creating a serious choking hazard.

Parents Urged to Buy Certified Products
Supamas advised parents to purchase only toys carrying clear Thai-language labels and the Thai Industrial Standard (TIS) certification mark. She also warned consumers to avoid products with unusually strong chemical or perfume-like odors, as these may indicate the presence of unsafe substances.
Consumer Laws Provide Protection
Thailand's Consumer Protection Act and Product Liability Act require manufacturers, importers and sellers to ensure that products meet safety standards. Businesses found selling unsafe products can face legal action, while consumers affected by defective products have the right to seek compensation under the law.
Government Calls for Public Cooperation
Authorities have urged consumers to inspect toys carefully before buying and supervise children while using squishy toys. Parents are also encouraged to clean the toys regularly and discard them if they become damaged or develop mold. The government said complaints regarding unsafe products can be submitted through the OCPB hotline, mobile application or official website.
