Thailand Warns of Thunderstorms Across 36 Provinces Heavy Rain

Thailand Warns of Thunderstorms Across 36 Provinces Heavy Rain

Post by : Meena Ariff

Thailand’s weather experts have issued a warning for widespread thunderstorms across 36 provinces. The capital, Bangkok, is expected to see heavy rain in more than 60 percent of its area. This warning comes as a low-pressure system over northern Laos and Vietnam meets the southwest monsoon winds, creating unstable weather conditions.

Residents are advised to be careful and stay alert during this period as thunderstorms can bring dangers such as strong winds, heavy rain, lightning, and flooding.

Strong Caution for Mariner

The seas around Thailand are also becoming rough. Mariners sailing in both the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand should be cautious. Waves in normal areas may reach about one meter high, but in places affected by storms, waves could rise above two meters. Authorities strongly recommend avoiding sailing in any areas where thunderstorms are active to ensure safety.

Weather Forecast by Region

Here is the detailed weather outlook for Thailand from 6 am today until 6 am tomorrow:

Northern Region

Thunderstorms are expected in about 40 percent of the northern region. The provinces most affected include Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Tak, and Nan. Temperatures will range from 23 to 25 degrees Celsius at night and rise to 33 to 36 degrees during the day. Winds will blow from the southwest at speeds between 10 and 20 kilometers per hour.

Northeastern Region

About 30 percent of the Northeast will experience thunderstorms. Areas likely to see storms include Bueng Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Amnat Charoen, and Ubon Ratchathani. Night temperatures will be between 23 and 26 degrees Celsius, while daytime highs will reach 33 to 36 degrees. Winds will also come from the southwest at 10 to 20 kilometers per hour.

Central Region

The Central Plain, including provinces like Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Ayutthaya, Samut Songkhram, and Samut Sakhon, is forecasted to have thunderstorms in about 40 percent of the area. Night temperatures will be 23 to 26 degrees Celsius, with daytime temperatures reaching 35 to 36 degrees. Winds from the southwest will blow at 10 to 20 kilometers per hour.

Eastern Region

The East is expected to see the highest chance of thunderstorms, covering 60 percent of the area. Provinces like Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat are included. Temperatures at night will be 25 to 27 degrees Celsius, warming up to 33 to 37 degrees during the day. Winds will be stronger here, blowing at 15 to 30 kilometers per hour from the southwest. The seas will be around one meter high, rising above two meters in storm-affected areas.

Southern Region

The south-east coastline, including Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat, will have thunderstorms in about 40 percent of the region. Temperatures will range from 24 to 26 degrees Celsius at night and 33 to 36 degrees Celsius during the day. Winds will blow at 15 to 30 kilometers per hour from the southwest. Seas will be around one meter high, but in storm zones, waves may rise above two meters.

On the south-west coast, provinces such as Krabi, Trang, and Satun will also see thunderstorms covering roughly 40 percent of the area. Night temperatures will be 24 to 25 degrees Celsius, with highs between 32 and 35 degrees. Winds and seas will be similar to those on the south-east coast, with waves climbing over two meters during storms.

Bangkok and Surrounding Areas

The capital city and its surrounding provinces will experience thunderstorms across more than 60 percent of the region. Overnight temperatures will be between 26 and 27 degrees Celsius. Daytime temperatures will rise to between 35 and 36 degrees. Winds will blow from the southwest at 10 to 20 kilometers per hour.

Safety Tips for Residents

Authorities urge residents to stay indoors when thunderstorms hit and avoid outdoor activities. People should also stay away from flooded areas and report any dangerous conditions to local officials. Using umbrellas during light rain is fine, but in thunderstorms, it is best to seek shelter immediately.

Mariners should check weather updates regularly and avoid sailing during storms to ensure their safety.

Thailand is facing a period of widespread thunderstorms due to a combination of weather systems. This affects 36 provinces, with heavy rains expected in Bangkok and coastal regions. Strong winds and rough seas will make travel by boat dangerous. Authorities remind everyone to be cautious and follow safety guidelines during this time.
