Rashmika Mandanna and Ayushmann Khurrana’s Thamma, the latest instalment in Maddock Films’ horror-comedy lineup, has struggled to sustain early box-office momentum through its third week. The film’s domestic tally stands at Rs 123.80 crore after 15 days in theatres.
On Tuesday the film added around Rs 2 crore — a modest uptick from Monday — helped in part by discounted tickets and midweek footfall. Its extended first-week runs contributed Rs 108.4 crore, underlining a robust opening phase. Thamma registered as the second-biggest launch within Maddock’s horror-comedy catalogue, behind Stree 2, and marked Ayushmann Khurrana’s largest opening weekend, eclipsing DreamGirl 2, which began at Rs 10.69 crore.
The picture held double-digit daily collections until day six, buoyed by positive word-of-mouth and holiday audiences. Once the festival period ended, daily receipts cooled considerably, reflecting a common post-holiday softening. Trade watcher Taran Adarsh noted the film’s steadiness, pointing out a visible weekday effect on Friday daytime shows and a recovery in business from the evenings, along with stronger turnout in the South.
Critic Saibal Chatterjee highlighted the leads’ performances, observing that the actors sell their roles convincingly even when much of the expression relies on prosthetic ‘Dracula’ teeth. He singled out Rashmika Mandanna for particular praise, saying she stands out for both acting and presence while the pair fluctuate deftly between confusion and knowingness.
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma features Rashmika Mandanna and Ayushmann Khurrana in principal roles, supported by Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Paresh Rawal. Produced by Dinesh Vijan, the film ties into Maddock Films’ existing universe that includes Stree, Stree 2, Bhediya and Munjya. Despite the recent slowdown, Thamma remains notable for its performances and its blend of horror and comedy.
