Toronto police have made a significant development in the homicide case involving a 79-year-old woman, Jolan Kun, found dead in her apartment late last year, by arresting a third suspect on first-degree murder charges.
This latest arrest adds to the ongoing investigation after Kun's body was discovered on December 9, 2025. Emergency responders were dispatched to her residence near St. Clair Avenue West and Rushton Road following a medical complaint.
Upon arrival, they found Kun unresponsive, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The authorities have not disclosed the cause of death or provided additional details surrounding the case.
Earlier in January 2026, police apprehended two suspects, Ashton Drysdale and Kaream Hines, both 38 and from Toronto, each charged with first-degree murder.
On Monday, a third suspect was charged: Andrew Christopher Matthews, 39, also known as Andrew Christopher Chesson, from Peterborough. Specifics of the charges and his involvement remain undisclosed.
First-degree murder represents the gravest homicide charge under Canadian law, reserved for premeditated killings, where the accused maintains a presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities yet to clarify if further arrests or charges will follow. Police are actively compiling evidence as the case progresses through the courts.
The local community is deeply affected by Kun's tragic death, heightened by her age and the nature of the accusations. The legal proceedings against the three charged individuals are anticipated to unfold in Ontario's courts in the coming months.
Updates may arise as the legal process continues, and police may release further information.
