Tiger Woods remains vague about a timetable for his return to professional golf, keeping fans on edge about when they might see him back in action. However, a close friend from the PGA Tour expressed optimism, envisioning the 15-time major champion making a comeback on the Champions Tour in 2026.
Following his back surgery on October 10, Woods is ruled out from the Hero World Challenge scheduled for December 4–7, an event he traditionally hosts. Additionally, he won’t be competing in the PNC Championship on December 20–21, where he has participated alongside his son Charlie five times in past years. As Woods approaches his 50th birthday on December 30, he becomes eligible for the Champions Tour, kicking off in Hawaii from January 22–24.
Ahead of the RSM Classic, Woods’ friend shared his hopes for the golf icon's return, saying, “If Tiger can regain his health, there’s a chance he could contend in major championships. I’m looking forward to seeing him in Hawaii come January; that would be a fantastic kickoff to the year.”
The last appearance Woods made was at the Open Championship in July 2024. He has faced numerous health hurdles, including Achilles tendon surgery in March 2024 and a total of seven back surgeries throughout his career. Despite these setbacks, he's committed to his indoor TGL team, underlining his dedication to golf.
His friend is advocating for a rule that would allow the use of golf carts on the Champions Tour to accommodate players like Woods in light of the physical demands of walking 18 holes. “I felt the need to ride during my round. I would certainly have preferred a cart during my experience yesterday,” he noted, stressing the significance of maintaining comfort for seasoned players.
Woods isn’t the only star nearing the 50-age mark; former Ryder Cup captain Zach Johnson will also join the Champions Tour in February 2026, creating potential excitement with the participation of both legends.
Notah Begay III, another close friend of Woods, emphasized the golfer's determination to surpass Sam Snead's 82 PGA Tour wins. “Deep down, I believe 83 is a significant target for him,” Begay remarked, noting the challenge Woods currently faces is not about his talent but rather his ability to walk. He’s still hitting the ball at impressive speeds, ranging from 175–180 mph, making him a strong contender in any professional field.
Woods’ eventual return to the golf course will largely depend on his health and rehabilitation progress. Both fans and fellow golfers await the news of his comeback to the Champions Tour, eager to witness him continue his storied career and inspire the golfing community.
