Delhi Police say the charred remains of a 32-year-old UPSC aspirant were recovered from a Timarpur flat on October 6. What was first treated as an accidental blaze has been reclassified as a deliberate homicide allegedly planned by the victim’s live‑in partner, her former boyfriend and a mutual acquaintance, amid claims of revenge and threats involving intimate footage.
The deceased has been identified as Ram Kesh Meena, a civil services hopeful living in Gandhi Vihar, Timarpur. Investigators allege his ambitions ended after his girlfriend, 21‑year‑old Amrita Chauhan, conspired with ex‑partner Sumit Kashyap when Meena refused to delete private recordings stored on a hard disk despite repeated requests.
Police say Amrita discovered that Ram Kesh had secretly recorded her and, angered by his refusal to erase the material, contacted Sumit. Motivated by retaliation, the two are accused of recruiting a third person, Sandeep Kumar, to carry out a plan intended to disguise the killing as an accidental apartment fire.
According to the probe, on the night of October 5 the three entered the victim’s flat. The attack reportedly involved physical assault leading to asphyxiation, after which the accused poured ghee, oil and wine over the body to fuel a blaze. Investigators allege Sumit, employed at a gas distribution firm, placed an LPG cylinder near the victim’s head and left gas flowing. Electronics and valuables were taken before the room was ignited and the door secured from outside.
An explosion about an hour later devastated the room and consumed crucial evidence. However, CCTV footage captured two masked men and a woman entering the apartment shortly before the fire. Subsequent inquiries identified Amrita and mobile data placed her at the scene during the incident.
Police conducted multiple raids that led to arrests: Amrita on October 18, Sumit on October 21 and Sandeep on October 23. During questioning, Amrita reportedly admitted involvement and detailed the sequence of events. She is said to have told investigators she was studying forensic science and drew on online crime shows and her studies when devising the scheme.
Investigators have recovered the stolen hard disk and other electronic devices from the accused. Officers described the case as both meticulously plotted and driven by intense emotion, making it among the more unusual homicides they have encountered recently.
The incident has provoked a strong reaction across Delhi, not only because of its brutality but because a young woman with forensic training allegedly applied that knowledge to plan a murder over fears tied to intimate material. Police continue to probe whether additional individuals were aware of or aided the conspiracy.
The Timarpur case has renewed discussion about digital privacy, the dynamics of abusive relationships and potential real‑world effects of crime entertainment on susceptible viewers as the investigation continues.
