Vietnam's General Secretary and President To Lam, accompanied by his wife Ngo Phuong Ly, met with King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida of Thailand at the Royal Palace in Bangkok during his official visit to the Kingdom of Thailand. The meeting marked another important milestone in the growing relationship between the two Southeast Asian nations as they celebrate 50 years of diplomatic relations.
The Thai monarch welcomed the Vietnamese leader and highlighted the significance of the visit, particularly following the recent elevation of bilateral ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. King Vajiralongkorn expressed confidence that the strengthened partnership would open new opportunities for cooperation and contribute to regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
During the meeting, the King congratulated Vietnam on its remarkable socio-economic achievements and praised the country's rapid development in recent years. He also recalled his previous visits to Vietnam and shared positive memories of the country and its people, expressing admiration for Vietnam's progress and cultural heritage.
President To Lam thanked the King and Queen for their warm hospitality and conveyed greetings from Vietnam's senior leadership. He praised Thailand's economic and social development achievements and expressed confidence that the country would continue strengthening its position as an influential nation within ASEAN and the wider international community.
The Vietnamese leader emphasized that Thailand remains Vietnam's largest trading partner within ASEAN and one of its most significant foreign investors. He noted that discussions with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul had produced important outcomes, including the signing of an action plan for implementing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between 2026 and 2031. The agreement covers cooperation in defense, security, trade, science and technology, connectivity, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
President To Lam also expressed appreciation for the contributions made by the Thai Royal Family through educational, social welfare, and community development projects in Vietnam. He thanked Thai authorities for supporting the Vietnamese community living in Thailand and requested continued assistance in preserving Vietnamese cultural heritage, including memorial sites dedicated to President Ho Chi Minh and Vietnamese temples across Thailand.
The meeting concluded on a positive note as President To Lam formally invited King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida to visit Vietnam in the near future. The Thai King warmly accepted the invitation and expressed his desire to return to Vietnam, reflecting the deep friendship and growing cooperation between the two neighboring ASEAN partners.
