Two Killed as Tornadoes Strike US Midwest Amid Severe Storms

Two Killed as Tornadoes Strike US Midwest Amid Severe Storms

Post by : Shakul

Indiana, United States: At least two people were killed after powerful tornadoes swept through parts of the US Midwest, bringing destruction to several communities in Illinois and Indiana. The storms were triggered by intense “supercell” thunderstorms, one of the rarest and most dangerous forms of storms.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), at least four tornadoes touched down across northern Illinois and northwestern Indiana, causing severe damage to homes, infrastructure and power lines.

In the town of Lake Village in Indiana, an elderly couple lost their lives after a tornado struck their home. Emergency teams were deployed across Newton County, where the storm knocked down around 70 utility poles, blocked several roads and damaged multiple buildings.

In Kankakee County, Illinois, another tornado caused widespread destruction as it moved through the suburb of Aroma Park. Local officials confirmed that at least nine people were injured, although no fatalities were reported in that area.

Authorities placed parts of Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio under a tornado watch as the severe weather system continued to move across the region.

The latest storms follow a series of deadly weather events in the United States. Just last week, eight people were killed by tornadoes in Michigan and Oklahoma, highlighting the increasing frequency of extreme weather events across the country.

Meteorologists warn that supercell thunderstorms can produce extremely dangerous weather conditions, including damaging winds, large hail and powerful tornadoes capable of causing widespread destruction.
