A tragic incident occurred on Thursday when a three-year-old boy fell from the sixth floor of an apartment in Kota Damansara, near Petaling Jaya. The child was found unconscious on a pedestrian walkway by members of the public, who immediately alerted the authorities.
According to a statement from Petaling Jaya police chief Shahrulnizam Ja’afar, the emergency services arrived promptly, but the child was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
“This is a heartbreaking case, and our thoughts are with the family,” Shahrulnizam said. He confirmed that the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 for child neglect.
Authorities have launched a thorough investigation to determine how the incident occurred and whether any negligence was involved. Child neglect under Malaysian law covers situations where a child’s safety or welfare is not properly safeguarded by caregivers. Depending on the investigation’s outcome, individuals responsible for the child could face serious legal consequences.
Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward. The Petaling Jaya district police headquarters can be contacted at 03-7966 2222, and the investigating officer, Ainaa Athira, is available at 010-276 2186. Authorities hope that any witnesses or individuals with relevant details will help provide clarity on this tragic case.
This incident has raised concerns about the safety of children living in high-rise apartments. While accidents can happen, experts say parents and guardians should take extra precautions to prevent such tragedies. Installing window grills, safety locks, and keeping children away from balconies are important steps that can save lives.
In recent years, similar accidents have prompted calls for stricter safety measures in apartment buildings across Malaysia. Residents and authorities alike are encouraged to ensure that safety rules are properly enforced, especially in high-rise residential areas where young children live.
The death of a young child has a profound emotional impact on the family, neighbours, and the wider community. Such tragedies serve as a reminder of the importance of vigilance, care, and community awareness. Many community leaders have urged parents to educate children about dangers in their surroundings and to remain alert at all times.
The tragic death of this three-year-old boy in Kota Damansara is a stark reminder of the vulnerability of children and the responsibilities of caregivers. While investigations are ongoing, it is crucial for families, building management, and authorities to work together to ensure the safety of children in residential areas.
Community members are encouraged to report any unsafe conditions or negligence to authorities immediately. Protecting children is a shared responsibility, and every precaution counts in preventing such heart-wrenching incidents.
