Trump Showcases New Qatar-Gifted Air Force One With Luxury Touches

Trump Showcases New Qatar-Gifted Air Force One With Luxury Touches

Post by : Badri Ariffin

On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump embarked on his inaugural official journey aboard a recently refurbished Air Force One, a Boeing 747-800 sent by Qatar, now repurposed for presidential duties.

Valued at $400 million, this aircraft is set to bridge the gap between the aging Air Force One fleet—which has been in operation for 36 years—and two new Boeing jets, which are expected to be ready by 2028 at the earliest.

Aircraft Features Custom Design by Trump

The newly debuted aircraft flaunts President Trump's chosen color palette, replacing the classic light blue exterior previously associated with Air Force One.

Its revamped appearance boasts a navy-blue lower body adorned with red and gold stripes. Inside, it features luxurious enhancements such as plush carpeting, lie-flat seating, and wood paneling, with presidential seals integrated into seat belts, as per aircraft tours.

Before boarding, Trump expressed his satisfaction with the aircraft's aesthetics, stating, "You can do two things: You can low-key it, or you can show it."

Aircraft Transformation After Trump’s Return

Weeks after returning to the White House, Trump inspected the Boeing 747-800 and instructed officials to get it ready for regular use during his remaining term.

To meet the President's urgent demand, the timeline for modifications was notably shortened, resulting in some advanced systems found on current Air Force One models being omitted.

Security Enhancements Limited by Rush

Images released after the aircraft's unveiling show that the retrofitted airplane lacks certain missile detection and countermeasure systems installed on the previous Cold War-era Air Force Ones.

The US Air Force confirmed it implemented minimal changes to the interior layout and allocated less than $400 million for security upgrades.

While the Air Force assured that the fast-paced conversion did not compromise security, safety, or secure communication, they acknowledged that several intricate engineering modifications planned for the ultimate Air Force One were intentionally omitted from this transitional aircraft.

The service also noted that they did not broaden the vehicle's exit doors or install multiple stairways integrated into the aircraft's fuselage.

Expert Observations Highlight Domestic Suitability

Jeremiah Gertler, a senior analyst at Teal Group, an aviation and defense consulting agency, remarked that the jet seems to feature fewer communication antennas and lacks some defensive gear present on the current Air Force One fleet.

He suggested that the renovations indicate the aircraft is more fitted for local engagements. “If you’re embarking on an extensive journey, you’d opt for the luxurious ride, but for a quick outing, you’d make do with something simpler. It appears this is designed for domestic use,” Gertler observed.

He further noted that prioritizing expediency and budget constraints likely led to fewer enhancements being integrated.

Trump’s Upcoming Plans for Aircraft

President Trump plans to utilize the refurbished aircraft next week for his trip to the NATO summit in Turkey.

Though this aircraft will temporarily serve as Air Force One, it is intended solely as an interim solution until the next-generation presidential jets are operational.
