US President Donald Trump is set to attend the ceremonial signing of a peace agreement between Thailand and Cambodia at an upcoming Southeast Asian regional summit, Malaysia’s Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan confirmed on Tuesday.
Speaking at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur, Hasan said, “President Trump is looking forward to witnessing the Thailand-Cambodia peace deal.” The summit will gather leaders from across Southeast Asia to discuss regional cooperation, economic development, and initiatives aimed at strengthening peace and stability in the region.
The peace agreement between Thailand and Cambodia is designed to improve bilateral relations, resolve historical disputes, and foster long-term stability along their shared border. Both countries have expressed commitment to diplomatic dialogue and collaboration in areas including trade, security, and cultural exchange.
Trump’s participation in the signing ceremony highlights the United States’ continued interest in supporting peace and diplomacy in Southeast Asia. Analysts note that his presence at the summit sends a strong signal of US engagement in regional matters and underscores Washington’s role as a partner in promoting stability and cooperation among Southeast Asian nations.
The regional summit, taking place in the coming weeks, will serve as a platform for discussing broader issues such as economic integration, environmental challenges, maritime security, and collaborative approaches to address regional conflicts. Leaders attending the event are expected to strengthen ties, sign agreements, and coordinate on strategies to enhance regional prosperity and peace.
Mohamad Hasan added that the US President’s attendance is a positive step toward encouraging diplomatic solutions and fostering stronger relationships between Southeast Asian countries and global partners.
