Turkmenistan Opens Ashgabat High-Speed Highway

Turkmenistan Opens Ashgabat High-Speed Highway

Post by : Shakul

Turkmenistan has marked a major milestone in its infrastructure development with the completion of the Ashgabat–Turkmenistan high-speed highway. The opening ceremony of the Mary–Turkmenistan section was attended by Serdar Berdimuhamedov, officially signaling the completion of the entire project.

Speaking at the event, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that modernizing road infrastructure is a key priority in the country’s development strategy. He highlighted Turkmenistan’s growing role in transport diplomacy and its ambition to become a major regional transit hub.

The newly completed highway stretches over 600 kilometers and connects the capital Ashgabat with the eastern regions of the country. Built in phases, earlier sections including Ashgabat–Tedjen and Tedjen–Mary had already been commissioned.

The six-lane highway meets international quality and safety standards and provides a direct link between the Akhal, Mary, and Lebap regions. This connectivity is expected to significantly enhance mobility and regional integration.

A notable aspect of the project is that it was entirely implemented by domestic companies, with construction carried out by members of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.

Officials stated that the highway will reduce travel time for passengers and freight transport, improve logistics efficiency, and contribute to economic growth across regions. It is also expected to strengthen Turkmenistan’s position as a strategic transport corridor linking countries and continents.

The project reflects the country’s broader vision of reviving the historic Silk Road in a modern form, supporting sustainable transport development and international connectivity.
