Turkmenistan and Japan Expand Cooperation Talks

Post by : Shakul

Turkmenistan and Japan continued strengthening their diplomatic and political relations during a high-level meeting held in Tokyo on May 7, 2026. Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Japan, A. Bayramov, met with Takuma Miyaji, Chairman of the Committee on Environment of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Japan and member of the Japan-Turkmenistan Interparliamentary Friendship Group. The meeting focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in several strategic sectors and strengthening parliamentary diplomacy between the two countries.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the discussions highlighted the growing partnership between Turkmenistan and Japan in political, environmental, and economic fields. Ambassador A. Bayramov expressed appreciation to the Japanese side for its continued support and contribution toward the development of friendly and mutually beneficial relations between the two nations.

During the talks, both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation and increasing direct communication between lawmakers and political institutions. Officials discussed ways to improve parliamentary diplomacy and create stronger political dialogue mechanisms that could help deepen long-term cooperation between Turkmenistan and Japan.

One of the major topics discussed during the meeting was the possibility of expanding interaction between political parties from both countries. The participants highlighted the importance of establishing direct contacts between the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan and the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan. Officials believe stronger political communication could create new opportunities for cooperation in diplomacy, trade, cultural exchange, and regional development.

Environmental protection was also an important part of the discussions. Both sides exchanged views on possible cooperation projects related to environmental sustainability, climate protection, and ecological management. Japan’s experience in environmental technologies and sustainable development was considered highly valuable for future partnership initiatives with Turkmenistan.

The meeting also focused on agriculture and horse breeding, which remain important sectors for Turkmenistan’s economy and cultural identity. Officials discussed opportunities for practical cooperation in agricultural technologies, farming development, and livestock management. Horse breeding, which holds historical and cultural significance in Turkmenistan, was identified as another promising area for bilateral collaboration.

Representatives from both countries noted that Turkmenistan and Japan continue to build relations based on mutual respect, trust, and shared economic interests. Over recent years, the two countries have expanded cooperation in infrastructure, energy, trade, and technology sectors while also strengthening diplomatic communication through parliamentary and governmental channels.

Observers believe the meeting in Tokyo reflects the growing importance of Central Asia in Japan’s foreign policy strategy and demonstrates Turkmenistan’s efforts to strengthen partnerships with leading Asian economies. Increased dialogue between the two countries could help create new investment opportunities and support long-term regional cooperation initiatives.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further developing Turkmen-Japanese cooperation in multiple areas of mutual interest. Officials expressed confidence that stronger political dialogue, parliamentary interaction, and practical partnership projects would continue contributing to stable and productive relations between Turkmenistan and Japan in the future.
