Two powerful explosions rocked central Kabul on Thursday night, causing panic among residents and prompting a quick response from security forces. According to reports, the first blast occurred around 9:50 pm local time (1720 GMT) and was followed by a second explosion just minutes later.
Eyewitnesses said the blasts were loud and could be heard across several neighborhoods in the Afghan capital. Shortly after the explosions, multiple videos surfaced on social media showing people describing seeing drones flying overhead before the blasts.
Government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the incident on X (formerly Twitter), saying that the situation was under investigation. He added that no casualties have been reported so far, and authorities will share more information once available.
Security forces immediately moved into action following the explosions. Several checkpoints were set up across the city, and officers were seen searching cars and patrolling streets to ensure public safety. The ground reported that mobile network services were temporarily disrupted in some parts of the city after the blasts.
The cause of the Kabul explosions has not yet been confirmed, and officials are investigating whether the blasts were the result of a drone strike or other attack. Residents of Kabul, still recovering from years of conflict, expressed fear and concern about the increasing security risks in the capital.
The incident came just hours after Afghanistan’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi arrived in India for a two-day diplomatic visit, marking a new step in the Taliban government’s efforts to strengthen international relations. Currently, Russia remains the only country that formally recognizes the Taliban-led Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
As of Friday morning, no group has claimed responsibility for the explosions. Authorities have urged residents to remain calm and follow official updates as investigations continue.
The Kabul explosions 2025 have once again highlighted the fragile security situation in Afghanistan, where bombings and attacks—though less frequent than in previous years—still pose a serious threat to peace and stability.
