In a significant move, the United Arab Emirates, represented by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), participated in the 27th meeting of the Committee of Undersecretaries of Transport Ministries from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. Heading the UAE delegation was Sheikh Nasser Al Qasimi, Assistant Undersecretary for Infrastructure Regulation at MoEI. He affirmed the UAE’s unwavering dedication to fostering regional integration within the transportation sector, pointing out that enhanced connectivity is essential for sustainable development and promotes economic and social unity among the member states.
Sheikh Al Qasimi remarked on the substantial transformation occurring in the transport sector across GCC nations, spurred by ambitious national visions and strategic initiatives. The discussions highlighted crucial projects, including the Gulf railway network and innovative smart transport systems, with a focus on improving efficiency, reducing emissions, and aligning efforts with the region’s sustainable development goals.
The agenda covered 25 items, ranging from the execution of prior decisions to reports from technical committees overseeing land, maritime, and air transport. Key discussions also included the Gulf Centre for Traffic Studies and operational strategies for 2026, alongside avenues for enhancing international partnerships with both regional and global organizations.
Participants underscored the necessity of unified policies and legislation across the GCC transport landscape. The exchange of expertise and technical know-how among member states was deemed vital in establishing the GCC as a prominent global logistics and transport hub.
The UAE delegation reaffirmed its pledge to adopt advanced and sustainable transport solutions while highlighting initiatives aimed at modernizing infrastructure and integrating smart technologies, ensuring that transport systems effectively contribute to economic growth, environmental stewardship, and regional prosperity.
This meeting showcased the critical nature of regional collaboration, emphasizing the goal of achieving seamless connectivity across the GCC. The UAE, in concert with other member states, reiterated its commitment to supporting joint projects, sharing best practices, and developing a cohesive transport and logistics framework benefitting all Gulf nations.
