Post by : Maya Rahman

Tomorrow, the UAE national football team will clash with Iraq in the first leg of the Asian play-off qualifying round for the 2026 World Cup. The match is set to unfold at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, and fans nationwide are buzzing with excitement as the team seeks to advance towards World Cup qualification.

During a press conference today, the UAE head coach, Olariu Cosmin, emphasized the significance of this face-off, dubbing it among the most crucial matches in the UAE national team’s history. He reassured fans that his players are fully aware of the stakes involved and are determined to perform admirably while maintaining composure under pressure.

Cosmin highlighted that the team has devoted recent days to physical and mental recuperation following their past encounters. He expressed that preparation has been vigorous, noting the challenges posed by a well-structured Iraqi squad. Still, he is confident in his players' readiness to seize every opportunity.

He urged his team to concentrate solely on the gameplay and not get sidetracked by external expectations. “We need to play with complete assurance and present our best selves on the field,” he stated, adding that managing pressure is essential for success in critical events. “Tomorrow, we must give it our all to exhibit our true capabilities.”

Also, Cosmin extended his gratitude towards the players for their commitment during training, commenting on the uplifting atmosphere in the camp. He asserts that discipline and teamwork will be pivotal in securing a robust result before heading for the return leg in Iraq.

On the Iraqi side, coach Graham Arnold conveyed his confidence ahead of the showdown. In his press briefing, he acknowledged that both teams have evenly matched chances, with the night’s performance being the deciding factor. He dismissed the notion that Iraq holds an upper hand due to the second leg being hosted in Basra.

Arnold stressed that his side remains solely focused on the initial leg in Abu Dhabi. His players are geared up to deliver their utmost for a commendable result. “We have carefully analyzed the UAE team,” he remarked. “They are formidable and play with vigor, but we are equally ready and confident. The significance of this match for our nation is not lost on our players, and they will strive for excellence.”

This match is anticipated to be fiercely competitive as both teams aspire to secure a spot in the 2026 World Cup, to be held across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Under Cosmin’s leadership, the UAE has been rigorously honing its skills and strategies. The players are driven to etch their names in history by qualifying for the tournament.

Supporters are expected to crowd the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium to rally behind the UAE national team. This match offers a platform for showcasing the team’s development and tenacity. With a blend of emerging talents and seasoned players, the UAE aims to establish an early advantage before the second leg.

As the event approaches, both teams remain focused on their game plans. The UAE strives for a strong home start, while Iraq aims to secure a favorable result away from home ahead of the return match. Anticipate a display of excitement, passion, and resolve from both teams as they vie for a precious opportunity in the next stage of World Cup qualifying.
