Abu Dhabi — The United Arab Emirates has voiced solidarity with Afghanistan after a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck the northern city of Mazar-e Sharif, leaving at least 20 people dead and hundreds injured.
In an official statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed condolences to the families of those lost and conveyed hopes for a swift recovery for the injured.
Video released by Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defence showed military teams clearing rubble and extracting survivors from collapsed buildings, as significant damage to residential areas displaced many households.
The United Nations mission in Afghanistan confirmed it has personnel on the ground assisting local authorities with rescue and relief efforts, saying on X that “we stand with the affected communities and will provide necessary support.”
The UAE reiterated its commitment to supporting Afghanistan in moments of crisis, underlining its ongoing humanitarian assistance to regions hit by disasters.
