UAE Leaders Advocate for Robust Supply Chains During Maritime Conference

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Dubai, UAE – His Excellency Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, the Minister of Foreign Trade, led a significant coordination meeting at the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) headquarters in Dubai. Senior executives from international shipping lines and maritime agencies came together to tackle critical challenges facing regional supply chains.

The session was attended by His Excellency Abdulla bin Damithan, Chairman of PCFC, His Excellency Dr. Abdulla Busenad, Director General of Dubai Customs, along with influential figures from the logistics and maritime fields.

Commitment to Trade Stability

Dr. Thani reaffirmed the UAE’s dedication to maintaining trade continuity and enhancing supply chain resilience. He stressed the need for collaboration with various partners and the deployment of innovative measures to address regional hurdles, ensuring uninterrupted goods movement and bolstering the UAE’s reputation as a dependable global trade hub.

“The UAE remains focused on promoting regional and international trade stability through adaptive policies and strategic initiatives that enhance supply chain effectiveness and sustainability,” he stated.

Collaboration Between Sectors

H.E. Bin Damithan highlighted the importance of ongoing cooperation between public and private sectors. He noted advancements in fortifying supply chain resilience, including improvements in alternative shipping routes like Fujairah and Khorfakkan ports, enhancing maritime connections for efficient cargo transit.

“These accomplishments underscore the value of public-private collaboration and the necessity for collective approaches to address escalating operational costs and complexities,” he remarked.

Initiatives by Customs for Trade Facilitation

H.E. Dr. Busenad presented Dubai Customs' forward-thinking steps aimed at increasing operational efficiency. Among the key initiatives are:

  • Issuance of Customs Notice No. (6) to allow transit cargo with Oman via the green corridor.
  • Acceptance of undertaking letters as official guarantees.
  • Workshops for traders on the mechanisms of the green corridor.

Ongoing undertakings include the activation of the Advance Cargo Information (ACI) system, the initiation of a maritime feeder service to India, the expansion of the green corridor to Saudi Arabia, and a variety of clearance options within secure corridors.

Preparing Supply Chains for the Future

The meeting assessed advancements since the last gathering, focusing on improvements in the handling of vital shipments, the activation of alternative transport routes, and increased utilization of multimodal transport methods such as land and rail. These initiatives aim to boost efficiency, lower costs, and ensure resilient supply chains throughout the region.
