At the 2025 World Championships held in Bangkok, Thailand, the UAE women's under-21 jiu-jitsu national team continued to impress. Competing across U16, U18, and U21 categories, they have shown themselves to be formidable contenders this year. On Thursday, they added three more medals to their growing collection, showcasing remarkable skill and determination on the global stage.
With these achievements, the UAE's U21 medal count now stands at ten, consisting of three gold, four silver, and three bronze medals. This impressive tally reflects the athletes' relentless dedication, the guidance of their coaches, and the unwavering support from national sports programs. It highlights the UAE's advancements in nurturing jiu-jitsu as a competitive discipline for young athletes.
The day was marked by a standout performance from Alanood Alharbi, who claimed the gold medal in the 48kg division. Her technique and poise in each match stood out, contributing another significant gold to the UAE's accolades in the championship. This victory signifies her development as an athlete and her capacity to handle high-stakes situations.
Aysha Alshamsi impressed in the 45kg category, earning a silver medal after a series of strong bouts against tough international competitors. Her focus and grit throughout the day secured an important podium finish for the UAE, enriching her experience at the world level.
Mariam Al Ali also competed in the 45kg category, clinching a bronze medal after challenging matches against adept opponents. Her dedication throughout these competitive rounds underscored the depth of talent within the women’s U21 team and demonstrated her commitment to representing her nation with honor.
Post-victory, Alanood Alharbi shared her pride and happiness, emphasizing the importance of this win after years of dedication and family support. She remarked that jiu-jitsu has been a vital part of her life, thanks in part to her school’s program, which has bolstered her skills and confidence. Alharbi expressed that she feels honored to raise the UAE flag, viewing this medal as a stepping stone toward greater aspirations in the sport.
Looking ahead, the excitement continues with the 2025 World Jiu-Jitsu Cup for the U14 category set to commence on Friday. This single-day event will showcase emerging talents from several nations, with the UAE sending a team of 17 athletes eager to make their mark.
Armed with confidence and ambition, the UAE team approaches the U14 competition, buoyed by their recent successes in the U21 category. They strive to keep the UAE's flag flying high on the podium as the championship unfolds.
