The UK government is putting more than £900 million into sports to help the country host big events and make local sports facilities better. Over £500 million will help bring famous competitions like the men’s European Football Championship in 2028, the Tour de France cycling races in 2027, and the European Athletics Championships in 2026 to the UK. Some of this money will also help England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales try to host the Women’s World Cup in 2035.
At least £400 million will be spent on building and fixing sports fields, changing rooms, and other facilities in towns and cities all over the country. The government hopes this will help more people get active, bring communities together, and show the world what the UK can do. They also believe these events will create jobs, help local businesses, and bring more visitors to the UK.
This big investment is meant to give everyone a chance to enjoy sports, whether they are watching a big match or playing at their local club.
