The Zayed Award for Human Fraternity has achieved a remarkable milestone ahead of its 2026 iteration, garnering over 350 nominations from more than 75 countries. This impressive collection of nominations comes from a distinguished body of eligible nominators, including heads of state, Nobel Prize winners, grassroots activists, and young leaders, indicating the award’s expanding worldwide significance.
The countries with the highest nominations include the UAE, the US, Italy, Canada, and Egypt, emphasizing the award’s international appeal. The judging panel is currently assessing the submissions and is expected to reveal the honouree(s) next month. This seventh edition offers a prize of USD 1 million, with the winner(s) celebrated at a ceremony in Abu Dhabi on February 4, 2026, coinciding with the UN-designated International Day of Human Fraternity.
Since its launch in 2019, the Zayed Award has recognized 16 honorees from 15 different nations, spotlighting both individuals and organizations dedicated to promoting human fraternity and peaceful coexistence. Notable past awardees include global leaders like UN Secretary-General António Guterres, King Abdullah II and Queen Rania of Jordan, as well as the late Pope Francis and humanitarian efforts such as World Central Kitchen and the Community of Sant’Egidio.
Named in honor of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the UAE, the award acknowledges efforts that transcend religious, ethnic, or national boundaries, promoting initiatives that foster collaboration and understanding.
With a surge in nominations, the 2026 edition highlights the increasing relevance of the award on the global stage, bringing attention to those who tirelessly advocate for unity, tolerance, and human solidarity.
