U.S. Climate Reports Disappear From Federal Sites, Experts Warn

U.S. climate reports that help communities understand and prepare for the effects of global warming have suddenly disappeared from official government websites. These National Climate Assessments, which are required by law, have long provided valuable information to local governments, planners, and the public.

As of Monday and Tuesday, the websites that used to host the assessments and related climate data were either blank or offline, with no explanation, redirects, or alternative links provided. The reports included detailed information about how climate change is affecting different regions across the United States — such as increasing temperatures, rising sea levels, and extreme weather events.

Experts warn that losing easy access to these assessments could put lives and money at risk. Communities often rely on the data to plan for floods, wildfires, heat waves, and infrastructure needs. Without it, local governments may be left unprepared for the growing challenges of climate change.

According to officials, the White House has decided to move the information to NASA to meet legal requirements. However, no timeline or further details were given on when the reports would be available again or how users could access them.
