In a significant move towards strengthening their technology partnership, the United States and the United Arab Emirates hosted their inaugural meeting of the U.S.-UAE AI Acceleration Partnership Working Group on March 26 in Washington, D.C. Senior officials from both nations were present, reflecting their commitment to collaboration.
The session was co-led by Jacob Helberg, U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs, and Mohamed Al Suwaidi, UAE Minister of Investment. Officials and delegates from various U.S. governmental departments, including State, Commerce, Energy, and Treasury, joined representatives and corporate leaders from the UAE.
Key discussions centered on enhancing collaborations in artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging technologies. Recognizing AI's transformative impact on the global economy, both countries committed to secure AI supply chains and ensure responsible technology use.
This meeting marks a crucial step in a larger AI partnership framework established in May 2025, which seeks to foster collaboration, build trust, and set guidelines on key issues like export controls and technology protection to facilitate safe sharing of advanced AI technologies.
UAE representatives reaffirmed their dedication to the partnership, emphasizing alignment with U.S. tech standards while retaining national decision independence. They also reiterated planned long-term investments in the U.S., amounting to $1.4 trillion across various sectors, focusing on digital infrastructure.
U.S. officials affirmed their commitment to the partnership, ensuring continued access to AI technologies under specific security regulations. They acknowledged the advancements made by G42, a UAE AI firm, in establishing secure management systems for sensitive technologies.
Contributing to the dialogue, Mike Johnson reiterated the significance of the U.S.-UAE partnership, advocating for strong collaboration with dependable allies to uphold leadership in AI and global competitiveness.
The meeting concluded with commitments from both nations to advance technical dialogues and enhance regulation and licensing processes, alongside exploring new avenues for transparency in managing cutting-edge technologies.
