Doha, Qatar – In a captivating Qatar Grand Prix, McLaren’s Lando Norris faltered from the start, losing a critical advantage to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen right out of the gate. With a chance to thwart Verstappen's fifth world title chase, Norris inadvertently handed the lead to the Dutch driver, paving the way for an exhilarating climax to this season.
Things took a significant turn on Lap 7 when a safety car was triggered due to Nico Hulkenberg’s Sauber spin, instigated by Alpine’s Pierre Gasly. Norris and teammate Oscar Piastri decided to stay on track; meanwhile, Verstappen took the opportunity to pit, a choice that turned out to be crucial.
Piastri, who had been a dominant force throughout the weekend and claimed the Sprint Race victory, had to settle for second place behind Verstappen, while Norris secured fourth after benefitting from a late chance gifted by Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli. Carlos Sainz from Williams rounded off the podium, concluding an action-packed evening at the Lusail International Circuit.
This result has intensified the championship battle as the Abu Dhabi finale approaches. Norris clings to a narrow 12-point lead over Verstappen, with Piastri only 16 points behind, giving all three racers a plausible shot at the title. Verstappen, riding a wave of momentum, rekindles memories of his thrilling 2021 Abu Dhabi victory against Lewis Hamilton, showcasing his ability to excel under pressure.
The scene is now set for an exhilarating conclusion to the Formula 1 season, where each tactical maneuver and split-second choice will be as critical as sheer speed on the track.
