The bushfire crisis in Victoria is escalating, with three individuals reported missing and numerous homes lost as firefighters tackle an array of blazes throughout the region.
Emergency alerts have been issued across nearly half of Victoria, driven by soaring temperatures and fierce winds that have created perilously high fire risks.
New incidents were registered on Friday in areas such as Horsham, Ouyen, Avalon, and Skipton. Firefighters are also confronting significant fires near Longwood and in Mount Lawson State Park close to Walwa. Additional blazes are ongoing in the alpine areas of Victoria and Far East Gippsland.
Officials indicate that fluctuating winds are complicating firefighting strategies. David Nugent, a representative from the State Control Centre, cautioned that conditions could deteriorate further, heightening the danger of new fires starting.
Emergency services remain vigilant as teams endeavor to safeguard lives and properties amidst unpredictable and rapidly changing fire dynamics.
