Vietnam’s Prime Minister Le Minh Hung has reaffirmed that education and training remain a top national priority, highlighting the government’s strong commitment to improving the sector. The statement was made during a high-level meeting with the Ministry of Education and Training on April 25, 2026.
The meeting was attended by senior leaders, including Deputy Prime Minister Le Tien Chau and Education Minister Hoang Minh Son, along with officials from various ministries and central agencies. Discussions focused on reviewing key programs, resolving challenges, and accelerating urgent tasks within the education sector.
Officials reported that significant progress has been made in implementing major resolutions related to education reform, science, technology, and digital transformation. Several laws, decrees, and policies have been introduced to strengthen the institutional framework and guide development in the sector.
The government is prioritizing universal preschool education for children aged 3 to 5, while also ensuring stability and quality across all levels. A nationwide unified textbook system is set to be implemented from the 2026–2027 academic year, aiming to standardize content and improve teaching methods.
Vietnam is also focusing on building a highly skilled workforce by expanding training programs in key industries and advanced technologies. Initiatives include promoting English as a second language in schools, strengthening innovation ecosystems, and enhancing cooperation between the state, educational institutions, and businesses.
Despite these achievements, the Prime Minister acknowledged several ongoing challenges. These include shortages of teachers in certain regions, delays in restructuring higher education institutions, gaps in digital transformation, and limitations in education quality and infrastructure in some areas.
Looking ahead, the government has outlined a series of priority actions. These include accelerating administrative reforms, improving policy implementation, strengthening digital data systems, and ensuring better coordination among agencies. Special attention will also be given to teacher welfare, particularly in remote and disadvantaged areas.
The Prime Minister emphasized that improving education is essential for boosting economic growth, increasing labor productivity, and achieving long-term national development goals. Authorities have been urged to act more decisively and deliver measurable outcomes in the coming months.
