Vietnam's Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc chaired a national conference on promoting exports to support the country's double-digit economic growth target. Officials said Vietnam's export performance has remained strong despite global economic uncertainty, with export turnover reaching US$239.9 billion by mid-June 2026, up 21.4% compared to the same period last year. The government stressed the need to strengthen domestic industries, improve competitiveness and expand into new international markets.
Exports Continue to Grow Despite Global Challenges
Government officials said electronics, computers, mobile phones, footwear, seafood and agricultural products continue to drive export growth. However, Vietnam still faces challenges including higher logistics costs, stricter international trade standards, increasing trade protection measures and dependence on imported raw materials. Authorities acknowledged that the domestic business sector contributes only a small share of total exports, making local industry development a key priority.
How Will Vietnam Support Export Businesses?
Business groups urged the government to simplify customs procedures, reduce administrative costs and improve digital infrastructure for trade. They also called for stronger support in meeting international ESG, carbon emission, product traceability and supply chain requirements. Officials agreed that faster reforms and better trade forecasting would help Vietnamese exporters remain competitive in global markets.
Government Plans New Measures
Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc directed ministries to continue reforming regulations, promote digital transformation and improve logistics infrastructure. He also encouraged businesses to make better use of free trade agreements, increase local production and diversify exports into markets across Africa, the Middle East and Latin America to reduce dependence on traditional trading partners.
Why Is Export Diversification Important?
Officials said expanding into new markets and increasing domestic value-added production will strengthen Vietnam's long-term economic resilience. The government believes improving supporting industries, encouraging technological innovation and boosting local manufacturing will help Vietnamese products remain competitive while reducing reliance on imported materials.
