Vietnam Urges Power Saving Amid Record Heatwave

Vietnam Urges Power Saving Amid Record Heatwave

Post by : Shakul

Vietnam has urged households, businesses and industries to reduce electricity consumption after an intense heatwave pushed the country's electricity demand to a record level. State-owned Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) warned that soaring temperatures have placed significant pressure on the national power grid as millions of people rely on air conditioners and cooling appliances.

Authorities said conserving electricity has become essential to ensure stable power supplies during the ongoing period of extreme weather.

Record Electricity Demand Reaches Historic High

EVN reported that Vietnam's peak electricity demand climbed to 58.46 gigawatts, the highest level ever recorded in the country. Officials said the record reflects the growing impact of prolonged high temperatures, with several regions experiencing temperatures exceeding 40°C.

Power authorities are continuously monitoring electricity consumption to maintain grid stability and prevent disruptions.

How Is Vietnam Managing the Rising Electricity Demand?

To meet increasing demand, Vietnam is operating all available power plants at full capacity while importing additional electricity from neighboring countries. These emergency measures are aimed at ensuring uninterrupted electricity supplies during the heatwave.

EVN has also encouraged consumers to adopt simple energy-saving practices, including keeping air conditioners at 26°C or higher, switching off unused electrical appliances, using natural ventilation whenever possible and reducing electricity consumption during peak hours.

Heatwave Expected to Continue Across Vietnam

According to weather authorities, extremely hot conditions are expected to continue across several provinces in the coming days. As temperatures remain unusually high, electricity demand is likely to stay at elevated levels.

Officials are urging the public to cooperate with energy-saving efforts to help reduce pressure on the national electricity system.

Why Is Climate Change Increasing Energy Challenges?

Experts say rising temperatures caused by climate change are increasing electricity consumption every year, creating new challenges for Vietnam's energy infrastructure. Higher cooling demand places additional stress on power generation and transmission systems, particularly during prolonged heatwaves.

Strengthening renewable energy production, expanding grid capacity and improving energy efficiency are expected to play a major role in ensuring reliable electricity supplies in the future.

Government Continues Monitoring Power Supply

Vietnamese authorities have assured the public that they are closely monitoring electricity generation and distribution across the country. The government said additional measures will be introduced if required to maintain uninterrupted power supplies and protect critical infrastructure during the extreme weather period.
