The Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers, which were supposed to happen next week in Jordan, have been postponed. This is because of the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel. The Singapore women’s football team was ready to travel to Amman to play against Jordan, Iran, Lebanon, and Bhutan in the early rounds for the 2026 tournament in Australia.
The matches were planned to start on Monday and continue until July 5. However, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) decided to delay all Group A games. They said the reason is the current situation in the region and problems with travel and safety raised by some teams.
A new location, away from the conflict area, will be chosen to hold these games, but it has not been announced yet.
The conflict began last Friday when Israel attacked Iran, saying it wanted to stop Iran from making nuclear weapons. Iran responded by launching missile and drone attacks on Israel. Iran says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.
