World Bank Allocates $225M for Syria's Water and Health Revitalization

World Bank Allocates $225M for Syria's Water and Health Revitalization

Post by : Badri Ariffin

The World Bank has announced a grant of $225 million, intended to aid Syria in enhancing public services with a primary focus on water and healthcare. This funding is sourced from the International Development Association (IDA).

The financial assistance is structured around two pivotal projects. The first, known as the Syria Emergency Water Security and Resilient Services Project, is allocated $150 million, aimed at restoring water supply systems and wastewater infrastructure in urban areas severely affected by service interruptions.

The second initiative, named the Syria Health System Recovery and Strengthening Project, will receive $75 million. Its objective is to improve access to quality healthcare while fortifying the capabilities of Syria’s public health infrastructure.

Collectively, these projects are anticipated to benefit approximately 4.5 million individuals throughout the country, focusing on guaranteed access to clean water, improved sanitation, and enhanced healthcare services.

Jean-Christophe Carret emphasized that revamping infrastructure and reinstating essential services are critical for Syria's recovery. He noted that these improvements will elevate living standards, bolster social stability, and facilitate the return of refugees and displaced populations.

This funding signifies a vital advancement in Syria’s ongoing journey towards recovery and stabilization, directly addressing pressing needs in fundamental services.
