A 29-year-old man sustained severe injuries after suffering burns to around 50 per cent of his body in a suspected liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) explosion at a house in Taman Baiduri, Kuala Ina, Alor Gajah, on Wednesday morning.
The incident is believed to have been triggered by a gas leak that allowed LPG to accumulate inside the house before igniting and causing a powerful blast in the kitchen area.
According to the Melaka Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), emergency services received a distress call at approximately 10.26am before a team from the Alor Gajah Fire and Rescue Station was deployed to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the tenant of the house injured with serious burns following the sudden explosion. The Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) team immediately provided first aid before transferring the victim to the Ministry of Health (MOH) team.
The victim was later rushed to Tampin Hospital for further medical treatment due to the severity of his injuries.
Authorities said the man had just returned from his hometown in Pahang and reportedly noticed a suspected gas leak inside the house. While inspecting the LPG cylinder, an explosion suddenly occurred.
The blast caused extensive damage to the house structure, including the roof, doors, windows, ceiling, and electrical wiring, leaving the property severely affected.
Fire and rescue officials confirmed that safety inspections are ongoing to ensure there is no further risk of gas leakage. Investigations are also being conducted to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
Preliminary findings suggest that accumulated LPG gas inside the house was the likely cause of the blast, though authorities have not ruled out other possibilities as investigations continue.
