Asian stock markets posted sharp losses on Friday as investors sold technology and artificial intelligence-related stocks to secure profits after strong gains earlier this week. The sell-off hit major regional markets, with Japan and South Korea leading the decline.
Market analysts said the correction reflects investors locking in gains after AI-related shares reached record highs in recent trading sessions.
Japan and South Korea Lead Regional Decline
Japan's Nikkei 225 index dropped 4.4%, while South Korea's Kospi recorded the biggest fall among major Asian markets, declining 7.7%.
Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index also fell 1.9%, while China's Shanghai Composite Index slipped 2.1% as investor sentiment weakened across the region.
Why Did Asian Markets Fall?
The decline followed weeks of strong gains driven by enthusiasm surrounding artificial intelligence companies. As stock prices reached record levels, many investors chose to sell their holdings and secure profits.

Financial experts said such profit-booking is common after rapid market rallies, especially in high-growth technology sectors.
Global Markets Also Show Mixed Performance
The weakness in Asia came after Wall Street ended Thursday's session with mixed results. Several AI-related stocks recovered during trading, but broader market sentiment remained cautious.
Apple shares also declined after the company announced price increases on several of its products, adding further pressure on technology stocks.
Market Volatility Remains High
Analysts believe investors are closely watching developments in the global AI industry, which continues to influence stock market movements worldwide. Rapid price swings have become common as traders react to earnings reports, technology announcements and changing investor expectations.
Experts say volatility may continue in the coming weeks as markets assess future growth prospects for AI companies.
Investors Stay Focused on Technology Sector
Despite Friday's decline, analysts note that long-term interest in artificial intelligence remains strong. Investors are expected to continue monitoring corporate earnings, global economic indicators and technology developments before making fresh investment decisions.
Market participants say short-term corrections are a normal part of the investment cycle following strong rallies.
